Introduction
There are more than 28,000 patients
diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney Cancer)
and 11,000 associated deaths in the United States annually. Every
patient and their loved ones will have questions about the disease and its
treatment after their diagnosis. This booklet will discuss the
symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of renal cell
carcinoma. It also has some information to help patients and their
family members to cope with kidney cancer. Our
knowledge about kidney cancer keeps increasing. Although we try to
cover as much as possible in this booklet, the content of this booklet is
still very limited. Readers are encouraged to discuss the disease with
their physicians and participate in clinical trials for renal cell
cancer.
Medical terms that may be new to our readers
appear in italics. Definitions of these and other terms related to
kidney cancer can be found in the Glossary. For some
words, a "sounds-like" spelling is also given.
