What are the symptoms of cancer of the stomach?

The symptoms of cancer of the stomach are not specific.  This is one of the reason that most stomach cancer are in late stage when they are diagnosed.  The symptoms may include any of the following:

  • indigestion that does not go away
  • losing your appetite
  • losing weight
  • a bloated feeling after eating
  • nausea and vomiting
  • blood in the stools or black stools
  • epigastric (mid abdomen) pain or discomfort

These symptoms are common to a number of other conditions apart from cancer of the stomach, and most people who see their doctor with these will not have cancer. However, it is important to have them checked so that further tests can be done if necessary.
